La plaque cornée est formée de trois couches superposées. La couche extérieure, immédiatement visible, est la plus agressée par la vie quotidienne (chocs, trop de soleil, détergents,…) Sa composition unique a été étudiée, afin d'apporter à l'ongle une résistance accrue pour le protéger des travaux quotidiens et autres atteintes nuisibles à son bon développement. L'ongle peut ainsi se régénérer, se fortifier et se consolider correctement, sa croissance étant à l'abri des cassures, des effritements et des chocs.
